SPEDCO Economic Development Foundation

Founded in 2006, the SPEDCO Economic Development Foundation is designed to spark job growth and economic development throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The Foundation primarily assists nonprofit organizations that provide professional training and promote job creation. All of the Foundation’s activities support the mission of SPEDCO, an Arden Hills-based nonprofit development company that attempts to boost job creation by providing long-term, fixed-rate loans to small businesses throughout its service territory.

How the SPEDCO Economic Development Foundation Makes a Difference

The Foundation has demonstrated a holistic approach to job creation, supporting everything from early childhood initiatives to tailored career services for adults. One grant recipient is Minneapolis-based Way To Grow, an organization that encourages lifelong success by involving parents in early childhood education. Another recent recipient is Rebuild Resources, Inc., a Saint Paul-based organization that provides professional training to people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. The Foundation demonstrated its commitment to veterans by supporting two organizations that provide job services to this group. The Veteran’s Initiative Center and Research Institute assists entrepreneurial veterans in launching small businesses, while the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans provides services to veterans in crisis.
