Pan African Community Endowment
African and African-American philanthropy have a strong history in Minnesota. This tradition is responsible for the development of countless schools, churches, medical clinics, credit unions and insurance companies. The Pan African Community Endowment (PACE) works to preserve this important heritage by providing volunteer and financial support to important community projects throughout Minnesota.
This Pan African community extends from native Africans to all those who share an African heritage. PACE supports efforts that reflect the history and values of these diverse people, especially projects that address three critical concerns: improving education, eradicating health disparities, and addressing the disproportionate rate of incarceration of African and African-American juveniles and adults. This work is made possible by financial gifts large and small, not to mention the generous donation of service and time.
How PACE Makes a Difference
Since 1996, PACE has provided 187 grants to community-based nonprofit organizations and grassroots groups that serve Minnesota’s Pan African community. Its portfolio of funded projects is extremely diverse, from affordable housing programs to mentorships that benefit high school students. Representing its commitment to improving community health, PACE supported efforts like the East African Immigrant Health Initiative and the Mental Health Resources in the African American Community Project. PACE also addresses the community’s concern about criminal justice issues by way of programs like the Jordan Area Community Council’s Detention Alternative Initiative. The Pan African Legacy Award is another way PACE recognizes and supports philanthropic leadership in Minnesota’s Pan African community.
